thereto the sum of [$1,200] $1,700 for expenses. He shall appoint
one deputy who shall reside in the vicinity or area of Lexington
Park who shall receive an annual salary of [$2,400] $3,000 and
[$600] $1,200 annually for expenses, and one deputy who shall reside
in the third commissioner district, who shall receive an annual
salary of [$1,800] $3,000 and [$600] $1,200 annually for expenses.
He shall also appoint one deputy who shall reside in or near the town
of Leonardtown whose principal duty shall consist of policing said
town, and he shall receive an annual salary of [$900] $8,000 and
$1,200 annually for expenses. In addition, the sheriff shall

COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, two deputies ivho shall be residents
and citizens of St. Mary's County and who shall police the entire
county regardless of commissioner districts and who shall each re-
ceive an annual salary of $3,000 and $1,200 for expenses.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby declared
to be an emergency measure and necessary for the immediate pres-
ervation of the public health and safety and having been passed by
a yea and nay vote, supported by three-fifths of all the members
elected to each of the two Houses of the General Assembly of Mary-
land, the same shall take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 380
(House Bill 590)

AN ACT to add Section 102 (k) to Article 77 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1954 Supplement), title "Public Education", sub-
title "Chapter 8. Teachers' Certificates, Salaries and Pensions",
said new section to follow immediately after Section 102 (j) there-
of, specifying the minimum salaries to be paid to certain teachers,
principals and administrative and supervisory personnel in the
public school system of Allegany County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 102 (k) be and it is hereby added to Article 77 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1954 Supplement), title "Public
Education", sub-title "Chapter 8. Teachers' Certificates, Salaries and
Pensions", said new section to follow immediately after Section 102
(j) thereof, and to read as follows:

102(k). Allegany County. In Allegany County, notwithstanding
any other provisions in this Article, the Board of County Commis-
sioners shall pay salaries or compensation as provided in this sub-
section, to all teachers, principals and administrative and super-
visory personnel of the public school system of Allegany County,
