CHAPTER 253
(House Bill 577)

AN ACT to add a new sub-section to Section 40 of Article 10 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition and 1954 Supplement),
title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in fact", sub-title "State's
Attorney", said new sub-section to be known as Sub-section (k)
(1-a) and to follow immediately after Sub-section (k) (1) thereof,
relating to the office of Special Investigator in the State's Attor-
ney's office in Cecil County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new sub-section be and it is hereby added to Section 40 of
Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition and
1954 Supplement), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in fact",
sub-title "State's Attorney", said new sub-section to be known as
Sub-section (k) (1-a), to follow immediately after Sub-section (k)
(1) thereof, and to read as follows:

40.
(k).

(1-a). The State's Attorney of Cecil County is authorized to ap-
point a Special Investigator at an annual salary of $3,600. The
Special Investigator shall be directly under the supervision of the
State's Attorney and shall have all the powers of a deputy sheriff in
Cecil County. Whenever the State's Attorney permits, by reason of
lack of work for the Special Investigator, the Special Investigator
shall assist the Circuit Court of Cecil County in the capacity of Parole
and Probation Officer.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.

Approved April 1, 1955.

AN ACT to authorize and empower the Board of Regents of the
University of Maryland to acquire land and other property by
purchase, lease, gift, or condemnation.
