SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the Board of Supervisors of Elections is hereby authorized and
directed to make and conduct a new general registration of the voters
of Worcester County. The days for the new general registration of
voters shall be Monday and Tuesday, September 19 and 20, in the
year 1955, and Monday and Tuesday, April 16 and 17, in the year
1956. Registration places shall be open on those days at such loca-
tions and during such uniform hours as the Board of Supervisors of
Elections shall provide. The Board shall give public notice at least
two weeks in advance of each of such days of the places set apart for
registration and the hours during which voters may be registered.
The registration of voters shall be conducted generally according to
the procedures provided in Article 33 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland. No person who has not registered as a voter in Worcester
County under the provisions of this Act shall be entitled to vote at
any primary, general or special election held after May 1, 1956. The
Board of County Commissioners of Worcester County is hereby
authorized and directed to pay all reasonable costs and expenses of
the said new registration of voters upon receiving from the Board
of Supervisors of Elections a certified notification thereof.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.

CHAPTER 19
(Senate Bill 76)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 76 of
Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition),
title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "Cruelty to Animals",
providing a penalty of a fine not exceeding $100. 00 or imprison-
ment not exceeding 30 days or both for the misdemeanor of cruelty
to animals.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 76 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "Cruelty
to Animals", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:
76. Any person who wilfully sets on foot, instigates, engages in,
or in any way furthers any act of cruelty to any animal, or any act
tending to produce such cruelty, or by any act, conduct, neglect or
omission wilfully causes, permits or suffers any animal to undergo
any species of torture or cruelty, shall be deemed guilty of a mis-
demeanor [. ] and shall be punished by a fine not exceeding $100. 00,
or by imprisonment not to exceed 30 days, or both, in the discretion
of the Court.
