RESULTS OF REFERENDUM VOTES

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS

EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT

ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND

Proclamation Declaring the Result of the Election of
November 2, 1954, for Constitutional Amendments

WHEREAS, the General Assembly of Maryland at its January Session
of 1953, enacted five Acts to Wit: Chapter 55, relating to the salary
of the Sheriff of Baltimore City; Chapter 315, providing for in-
creasing the annual salary of the Governor; Chapter 480, authorizing
the General Assembly to provide by suitable enactment for absentee
voting by qualified voters of the State; Chapter 607, providing that
there shall be at least one Judge for every County in the State, except
in the First and Second Judicial Circuits, and creating an additional
Judgeship in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Montgomery and Prince
George's County; Chapter 745, relating to the Port Development; and

WHEREAS, the General Assembly of Maryland at its February
Session of 1954, enacted four Acts to Wit: Chapter 42, providing for
the salary of the Secretary of State; Chapter 53, providing for a
Charter form of Government; Chapter 65, providing for additional
judges in the Sixth Judicial Circuit of Maryland; Chapter 68, pro-
viding for an additional judge in Baltimore County; and

WHEREAS, the said above recited Acts and each of them, provide
for the submission of the same to the legal and qualified voters of the
State for their adoption or rejection, at the election to be held on
November 2, 1954; and

WHEREAS, at the election held on the day and date above set forth,
the said Acts and each of them were so submitted to the legal and
qualified voters of the State and from the certified copies of the
returns thereof, duly filed with me as directed by the Constitution of
the State, it appears that:

for the adoption of Chapter 55, aforesaid, 168,118 votes were

cast, and against the adoption thereof 51,563 votes were cast;

and

for the adoption of Chapter 315, aforesaid, 180,621 votes were

cast, and against the adoption thereof 89,448 votes were cast;

and

for the adoption of Chapter 480, aforesaid, 195,862 votes were

cast, and against the adoption thereof 44,749 votes were cast;

and

for the adoption of Chapter 607, aforesaid, 138,252 votes were

cast, and against the adoption thereof 87,846 votes were cast;
