wish to express publicly their thanks to the New Jersey Turnpike
Authority, the New Jersey State Police, and to the Pennsylvania
Turnpike Commission for their cooperation and assistance to the
Joint Committee, and hopes that the State of Maryland may have
an opportunity in return to extend the same courtesies to these States,
and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of State be instructed to send copies
of this Resolution to the New Jersey Turnpike Commission, New
Brunswick, New Jersey, the New Jersey State Police, New Bruns-
wick, New Jersey, and to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission,
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

(House Joint Resolution 16)

House Joint Resolution requesting and urging the Board of County
Commissioners and the Board of Supervisors of Elections of
Caroline County to acquire and use voting machines.

WHEREAS, Most of the political sub-divisions of the State of Mary-
land by this time have acquired and are using voting machines during
all State and County elections; and

WHEREAS, The wisdom and value of installing voting machines
were dramatically illustrated only a few months ago during the
course of several re-counts of paper ballots, the re-counts and the
Court cases based upon them consuming weeks of time and causing
considerable uncertainty as to the results of the primary election; and

WHEREAS, Sections 92 and 93 of Article 33 of the Code give full
power to every Board of County Commissioners and every Board of
Supervisors of Elections to acquire voting machines and to either
appropriate or borrow the money necessary for their acquisition; and

WHEREAS, The Board of County Commissioners and the Board of
Supervisors of Elections of Caroline County would do much to in-
crease the smooth workings and the efficiency of elections in Caro-
line County if they would promptly utilize the power contained in
Sections 92 and 93 of Article 33 of the Code to acquire and use
voting machines; now therefore be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Board of
County Commissioners and the Board of Supervisors of Elections of
Caroline County be and they are hereby requested and urged to
acquire voting machines for use in County and State elections in
