Chester Counties entitled thereto. The said scholarships shall be
awarded only after competitive examinations supervised by the
Board of School Commissioners of Baltimore City and the Boards
of Education of the respective Counties but said examination ques-
tions shall be prepared and papers graded by the respective insti-
tutions, and from the list of successful applicants passing said
examinations, the said list to be furnished to the respective Senators
by the respective institutions with the grade of each applicant.
Provided, however, that the said respective Senators, in making
said appointments, shall take into consideration the financial con-
dition of the parents or guardians of the several applicants, and no
applicant whose parents or guardians are able to pay said tuition
and/or board shall be appointed. All laws inconsistent with the
provisions of this section are hereby repealed to the extent of such
inconsistency.
(b) All such scholarships for Baltimore County [and for the
Third Legislative District of Baltimore City] shall be awarded
after a competitive examination supervised and graded as provided
hereinabove in this section, and shall be awarded by the Dean of
Admissions, the Committee on Admissions, or the appropriate
authorities of the college or institution concerned, taking into con-
sideration the financial condition of the parents or guardians of the
several applicants, also as provided hereinabove in this section.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.

(Senate Bill 87)
AN ACT to repeal Section 8 of Article 17 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1954 Supplement), title "Clerks of Court", sub-title
"General Duties of Clerks", and to enact a new Section 8 in lieu
thereof, to stand in the place and stead of the section so repealed,
incorporating into said section the provisions of the amending act
of Chapter 624 of the Acts of 1949 which inadvertently were
omitted therefrom in the 1951 Coder , EXTENDING THE PRO-
VISIONS OF THIS SECTION TO APPLY IN CERTAIN COUN-
TIES AND CHANGING THE CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH
OFFICES OF THE CLERKS IN DESIGNATED COUNTIES
MAY BE CLOSED ON SATURDAYS.
WHEREAS, the provisions of Chapter 624 of the Acts of 1949
amending what is now Section 8 of Article 17 of the 1951 Code were
inadvertently omitted from that Code at the time of its compilation,
and
