consistent herewith or contrary hereto are hereby repealed to extent
of such inconsistency.

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.

CHAPTER 672
(House Bill 561)

AN ACT to repeal Sections 174A, 174B, 174C, 174D and 174E, Code
of Public Local Laws of Baltimore County (1953 Supplement),
Title 13A "Justices of the Peace", and to add a new title to said
Code of Public Laws, entitled Title 19A, "People's Court", and
enact twenty-seven (27) sections of such Title, establishing a
People's Court of Baltimore County, and prescribing the number,
qualifications, tenure, and method of selection of the Judges of
said Court, and their powers, duties and compensation; the juris-
diction of said Court, and the right of appeal therefrom; the
number, qualification, tenure, method of selection, duties, and
compensation of all constables, clerks or other employees of said
Court.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 174A, 174B, 174C, 174D and 174E, Code of Public
Local Laws of Baltimore County (1948 Edition), Title 13A, "Justices
of the Peace", be and the same are hereby repealed, and a new title
to said Code of Public Laws is hereby added, entitled Title 19A,
"People's Court", with twenty-seven (27) sections, and to read as
follows:

1.   There is hereby created a People's Court of Baltimore County.
Said Court shall consist originally of a Chief Judge and two Associate
Judges; the number of such Judges may be increased or decreased
by the General Assembly by law.

2.  The Judges of said Court shall have the qualifications prescribed
by Section 2 of Article IV, Constitution of Maryland, shall be resi-
dents of Baltimore County and shall have been actively engaged in
the practice of law in Baltimore County for a total period of at least
five years.

3.   The salary of the Chief Judge shall be Sixty-Five Hundred
Dollars ($6,500.00) per annum; the salary of each of the Associate
Judges shall be Six Thousand Dollars ($6,000.00) per annum; to be
paid by the County Commissioners of Baltimore County, who are
hereby authorized and directed to levy to pay said salaries or such
additional salaries as they may determine.
