the health of the community. Nothing in this Act shall be construed
or operate to empower or authorize the Deputy State Health Officer,
or any health officer, or their representatives, to restrict in any
manner a person's right to select the mode of treatment of his choice
nor to require other than x-ray of the chest, any physical examina-
tion or medical treatment of a patient who in good faith relies upon
spiritual means or prayer for healing, nor shall such reliance or
treatment be considered a danger or menace to others under any
provision of this section, provided that the sanitary and quarantine
laws, rules and regulations relating to infections, contagious and
communicable diseases are complied with.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.

CHAPTER 84
(Senate Bill 20)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 36 of
Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition),
title "Health", sub-title "Miscellaneous", extending the power of
the State Department of Health to make investigations by giving
a right of entry into private CERTAIN premises to carry out the
duties imposed on the Department by law and specifying the
penalty for interference with or denial of such right.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 36 of Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Health", sub-title "Miscellaneous", be and it
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:
36. (a) The State Board of Health shall examine into all public
and private systems of water supply and prepare proper maps and
drawings of the same for permanent record; it shall examine and
control as far as possible the watersheds or catchment basins of all
public water systems, and investigate and report upon all sources
of pollution of public and private water supplies; it shall investigate
and report upon all private and public systems of sewage disposal;
it shall inquire into and investigate the water supply, sewage dis-
posal, ventilation, heating and lighting of schools, asylums, jails and
other public institutions; it shall inquire into and investigate offensive
trades and nuisances, disposal of trade wastes, sewage and other
offensive matters, and devise means for their control.
(b) The State Board of Health, its agents or employees, shall have
