services AND TO FEES CHARGEABLE BY THE SHERIFFS
IN BALTIMORE COUNTY.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 38 (x) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1951 Edition), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and
Duties", and Section 24 (b) of Article 36 of said Code, title "Fees
of Officers", sub-title "Sheriffs", be and they are hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, AND THAT SECTION 24(D) BE
AND IT IS HEREBY ADDED TO SAID ARTICLE AND SUB-
TITLE, TO FOLLOW IMMEDIATELY AFTER SECTION 24(C)
THEREOF, AND to read as follows:

38.

(x) [In Baltimore City, the Sheriff shall receive an annual salary
of $7,500. He shall appoint a Chief Deputy at $4,300 per annum, one
Writ Clerk at $3,000 per annum, one Assistant Writ Clerk at $2,900
per annum, one Equity Docket Clerk at $2,900 per annum, one
Stenographer-Docket Clerk at $2,500 per annum, and such Deputies
at $2,500 per annum and such assistants at such compensation as shall
be provided for in the annual Ordinance of Estimates of said City.]
In Baltimore City, the Sheriff shall receive an annual salary of
$10,000. He shall appoint an Under-Sheriff and Chief Deputy at
an annual salary of $6,500, one Writ Clerk and two Assistant Writ
Clerks at an annual salary of $5,000 each, one Stenographer and
Docket Clerk at an annual salary of $3,900 and such number of
Deputy Sheriffs as may be authorized in the annual Ordinance of
Estimates in Baltimore City at annual salaries of $4,100 each.
Pro-
vision shall also be made in said ordinance for the expenses of the
office of the Sheriff, including the purchase and maintenance of
motor vehicles, and the Mayor and City Council shall have the same
power with respect to the salaries and expenses of the office of Sheriff
as it has under the City Charter with respect to the salaries and
expenses of all municipal departments, except as otherwise herein
provided.
[Provided further, that from and after January 1, 1952,
each of the deputies, assistants and employees for whom provision
is made hereinabove in this sub-section shall be allowed and paid a
salary increase at the rate of $500 per year, said increase to be
based upon and to be in addition to the rate of compensation or
salary received by each such deputy, assistant or employee imme-
diately prior to December 31, 1950.]

24.

(b) The Sheriff of Baltimore City shall be entitled to charge and
receive the following fees for the following items in lieu of the fees
provided for such items in the above Sub-section (a), to wit:

1.   for serving writ and return............................ $[1.25] 1.65

2.   for serving scire facias, including the per-

son summoned, for each person summoned. [1.25] 2.00

3. for serving Citation, for each person sum-
moned ............................................................ [1.00] 2.00

4. for serving subpoena and return.................... [1.25] 2.00

5. for serving a copy of declaration, short note,
nar and notice of process, for each indi-
vidual copy
.................................................... [ .35] .50
