more for that year to the Employees' Retirement System of the City
of Baltimore for such positions in Baltimore City; but the annual
reimbursement by the State shall never exceed eighty per centum
(80%) of the amount which would be contributed for that year by
the State to the Employees' Retirement System of the State of
Maryland for such positions if they were included in the Employees'
Retirement System of the State of Maryland. If the ratio of ad-
ministrative costs paid from State and Federal funds varies from
time to time to a percentage greater or less than eighty per centum
(80%), the payment by the State of a proportion of such expense
incurred by the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore shall be changed
accordingly.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1958.

(House Bill 84)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 3 of
Article 22 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Post Mortem Examiners", relating to fees for deputy med-
ical examiners in this State when called as a witness in criminal
cases and proceedings.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 3 of Article 22 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Post Mortem Examiners", be and the same is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
3. Deputy medical examiners.
The said Commission is hereby authorized to appoint a deputy
medical examiner, who shall be a licensed doctor of medicine, for
each county in the State; provided, however, that an additional de-
puty medical examiner or examiners may be appointed for any
county whenever, in its discretion, the said Commission shall deem
it necessary or desirable to do so. The deputy medical examiners
shall be appointed from a list containing the names of not less than
two qualified persons submitted by the medical societies of the re-
spective counties; provided, however, that if there be no medical
society in any county, or if the medical society of any county fails
or refuses to submit such list of names, the said Commission shall
proceed to appoint a deputy medical examiner, or examiners, for said
county. Each deputy medical examiner shall receive as compen-
sation not less than $15.00 and not more than $25.00 for each death
he investigates, in accordance with the provisions of this article;
