CHAPTER 7.

1812.

An Act for the relief of Henry Cross of the
city of Baltimore.

16, 1812.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the judges of Baltimore county
court, or any one judge in court setting, or in the re-
cess of the said court, be, and they are hereby authoris-
ed and directed to extend to Henry Cross who is
now confined in the jail of Baltimore county, the
benefit of the act of Assembly passed at November
session eighteen hundred and five entitled, An act for
the relief of sundry insolvent debtors, and the several
supplements thereto, without requiring proof of his
residence in this state for two years preceding his
application.

CHAPTER 8.

Benefits of the
insolvent laws
granted.

An Act authorising William Merryman, late she-
riff and collector of Baltimore county, to com-
plete his collection, and for other purposes.

Passed Nov.
14, 1812.

WHEREAS, It is represented to this General
Assembly, by the petition of William Merryman,
late sheriff and collector of Baltimore county, that
from the multiplicity of business which necessarily
devolved on him during his sheriffalty he was una-
ble to complete his collection within the time limited
by law, or to ascertain and make an annual return of
insolvencies, so as to be allowed the same by the
commissioners of the tax for Baltimore county, in
consequence whereof he is without remedy unless by
the interference of the General Assembly; and the
said William Merryman having prayed that a law
may pass extending to him for a reasonable time all
the powers necessary to collect the balances due him
as sheriff and collector, and to authorise the levy-
court to levy for him the sum of money which may
appear to be due him in consequence of payments
made by him on the property of insolvents as collec-
tor; which prayer appearing to be reasonable and
proper: Therefore,

Preamble.

SEC. 1. BE IT ENACTED by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the said William Merryman
be, and he is hereby authorised and empowered until
the first day of January in the year eighteen hundred
