shall happen thereafter.
27. AND BE IT ENACTED, That in the event
of the several Banks in the city of Baltimore, and the
Bank in Washington county, not agreeing to the pro-
visions of an act passed at the present session, enti-
tled, "An act to incorporate a company to make a
turnpike road leading to Cumberland, and for the ex-
tension of the charters of the several Banks in this
State; this act shall be in force until the expiration of
the year eighteen hundred and fifteen, and until the
end of the next General Assembly thereafter, and no
longer.

CHAPTER 181.

A farther additional supplement to the act entitled
An act to direct descents.

Tenants by
the courtesy.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That whenever any person or persons
are, or hereafter may be entitled as tenants by the
courtesy to a life estate, in an undivided part of the
real estate of an intestate, and the commissioners
shall determine and so certify to the court in their re-
turn, that the said estate cannot be divided without
loss and injury to all the parties concerned, the chan-
cell or or the county court to which the said return is
made, shall proceed to award to such tenant or ten-
ants, such sum in current money as he or they shall
think just and equitable, in lieu of such tenancy by
the courtesy; and in decreeing such value to the said
tenant, the chancellor or the county court, (as the
case may be, ) shall be directed by the age, health
and condition of such tenant, and such award of value-
shall be sufficient 10 bar such tenant from all and
every right or title by such courtesy, which such ten-
ant may claim to the lands and tenements of such
intestate; and the person making the election to take
the estate at the valuation of the commissioners, and
under the award of the chancellor or county court,
shall hold the said estate, disencumbered by any ten-
ancy by the courtesy.

to purchase a Fire Engine in Cumberland, in Al-
legamj county.
