and believing that their petition is just and reasona-

ble: Therefore,
SEC. 1, BE IT ENACTED by the General As-
sembly of Maryland, That Henry Stauffer, John
Bankson, George Hughes, James Carey, Thomas C.
Jenkins, Alexander Robinson and George Warner,
be, and they are hereby authorised and empowered to
open and extend Forrest-street, from the head of the
Basin, commencing at the termination of Light-street
wharf, and running its present width in a straight line
southerly until it intersects the property of Philip
Dearer on the east, and Edward Hagthrop on the
west side of the road leading to Cumberland Dugan's
ferry on Patapsco river, and from thence its present
width in a straight line continuing the road to the said
ferry; and also to open and extend Goodman's-street
from the said city, in a straight line southerly its pre-
sent width, until it intersects a point in the west line
with the north side of William Rawlings' land, and
thence south about four and one half degrees east of a
straight line so as to run parallel with Forrest-street.

the said river Patapsco; and the said streets and road
when so opened and extended, and the valuation and
assessments hereinafter directed to be made shall have
taken place, shall be deemed and taken, and are here-
by declared public streets and highways forever there-
after; and the said commissioners, or a majority of
them, are hereby required to return a plot ascertain-
ing the limits and extent of the said streets and road
when so opened and extended, to the register of the
city of Baltimore, who shall receive and file the same
as a part of the plot of the city and county of Balti-
more.

2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said com-
missioners, or a majority of them, after having given
at least ten days notice in two of the news-papers of
the city of Baltimore, shall at any time before the
tenth day of March next, being first sworn to assess
and value what damages shall be sustained by any per
son or persons whomsoever, by reason of the opening
and extending the said streets and road, shall proceed
to assess and value what damages may be sustained
by any person or persons by reason of opening and
extending said streets and road; and shall also de-
clare what sum of money each individual benefited
thereby, shall respectively contribute and pay to-
wards compensating the person or persons injured by
