CHAPTER 96

An act to authorise the Levy Court of Baltimore
county to remit a part of the money paid by James
Fletcher, for the materials of the old Court-house,
of said county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, It is represented to this General As-
sembly by the petition of James Fletcher, of Balti-
more county, that he will be a great loser by the pur-
chase of the materials and demolition of the old
Court-house of said county, and that he is an aged
and industrious citizen, whom the levy court cannot
legally relieve: Therefore,,

A part may
fee remitted.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the levy court of Baltimore county
may pay and remit such part of the money paid by
James Fletcher for the materials and demolition of
the old Court-house of said county, as they in their
judgment shall think just and reasonable, and dis-
charge him and his securities, any thing in any law
to the contrary notwithstanding.

CHAPTER 97.

Passed Dec.
21, 1812.

An act to authorise and direct the Sheriff of Mont-
gomery county to execute a deed or deeds therein
mentioned.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, It is represented to this General As-
sembly, by the petition of William Lodge, of Mont-
gomery county, that he purchased at a sheriff's sale
in said county made by Benjamin Ray, Junr. (the
sheriff, ) the title and estate of a certain Thomas Orme,
to several tracts of land in Montgomery county, and
paid the purchase money thereof; but before the exe-
cution of any deed or deeds, the said Benjamin Ray,
Junr. was taken ill and died; and praying that an act
may pass authorising and directing the sheriff of
Montgomery county to execute a deed or deeds to
him in the same manner that the said Ray could have
done in his life time, and the prayer of the petitioner
appearing reasonable: Therefore,

A deed or
deeds may be
executed.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the sheriff of Montgomery county
be, and he is hereby authorised and directed to exe-
cute a deed or deeds to the said William Lodge, in
the same manner as the said Ray was empowered to
do in his life time; which deed when executed and
recorded according to law, shall have the same legal
effect and operation as if it had been executed by the
said Benjamin Ray, Junr. in his life time.
