rate seal, and all deeds by them for the conveyance of
any lands and tenements of the said corporation which
by the laws of the land ought to be acknowledged and
recorded, shall be signed and sealed as aforesaid, and
shall also be acknowledged in due forma by the trustees
as such in behalf of the corporation, and all acts and
deeds of the said body shall be valid and effectual in
law.

Authority to
hold property.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said corpora-
tion shall, and they are hereby authorised hereafter to
hold by gift, devise, bequest or purchase, any real, per-
sonal or mixed property; Provided, it does not exceed
in value eleven thousand dollars.

Banking for-
bid.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That nothing in this
act be construed BO as to authorise the said corporation
to issue any note, token, devise, scrip or other evidence
of debt to be used as a currency.

CHAPTER 308.

AN ACT appropriating a sum of money to pay James
Higgins, State Agricultural Chemist, for thirteen
thousand five hundred copies of his fourth report to
the Legislature.

Authority to
pay.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Treasurer is hereby author-
ised and directed to pay upon the warrant of the Comp-
troller, to James Higgins, State Agricultural Chemist,
the sum of eleven hundred and seventy-two dollars and
seventy-five cents, for thirteen thousand five hundred
copies of his fourth report to the legislature.

In force.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
