CHAPTER 272.

AN ACT to provide for the more effectual protection
of oysters in the waters of Dorchester county.

Mar. 10, 1854.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That from and after the passage of this
act, it shall not be lawful for any person other than
citizens of Dorchester county, to take, catch, or carry
away between the first day of May and the first day of
October, in any year hereafter, any oysters from any
rock oyster bar, shoal or place of natural deposite or
growth; or at any time for citizens of other counties to
take and carry away oysters found in said waters, for
the purpose of burning them into lime, bedding or
planting.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all persons violat-
ing the provisions of this act, shall be liable to arrest,
seizure of their persons and vessels, and upon conviction
before a justice of the peace of any of the election dis-
tricts in said county, shall suffer the same penalties and
forfeitures as if they had been convicted of unlawful
dredging, as provided in the various acts of Assembly
on that subject now in force, and in case of conviction
they shall have the same right of appeal.
