CHAPTER 194.

AN ACT for the better protection of Slaveholders in
in the several counties therein mentioned.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That from and after the first day of
May next, it shall not be lawful for any retailer, ordina-
ry keeper, trader or person accustomed to make or sell
spirituous or fermented liquors, to suffer any free negro
or mulatto, or any negro or mulatto servant or slave, to
he in his or her store house or ordinary or other house
wherein he or she may be accustomed to make or sell
spirituous or fermented liquors, or in any out house or
shed belonging to, or used with the same, or belonging
to or used with the tenement of which said store house,
ordinary or other house as aforesaid, may be parcel, be-
tween sunset in the evening, and sunrise of the suc-
