Bridge vested
in company.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That for and in con-
sideration of the great risk and expenses to he incurred
by the said company, not only for building said bridge,
but for keeping the same in repair the said bridge when
built and completed and all its profits shall be and the
same are hereby vested in the said company forever, or
to be held as tenants in common in proportion in their
respective shares, and it shall and may be lawful for the
president and directors at all times hereafter to demand
and receive such reasonable tax or toll as they may
from time to time agree on and require or such as may
be prescribed by any law of the State of Maryland.

Account of
monies.

SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That the said president
and directors shall keep a just and true account of all
monies received by their several and respective collec-
tors of tolls for crossing said bridge, and shall make and
declare a dividend of the profits and income thereof
among all the stockholders, first deducting therefrom all
proper expenses or incidental costs and charges, and
such proportions of the said income as they may deem
necessary to provide against the decay, and for the re-
pairing of the said bridge, and shall on every first
Monday of July and January of every year, publish
the dividend to be made of the clear profits thereof
among the stockholders, and also the time and place
when and where the same shall be paid, and shall cause
the same to be paid accordingly.

Forfeiture for
injury.

SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That if any person or
persons shall wilfully injure any part or parcel of said
bridge, he shall forfeit and pay to the president and di-
rectors for every such offence a sum not exceeding fifty
dollars, to be recovered before any justice of the peace
in Montgomery county, and he, they and she so offend-
ing may and shall remain liable to actions at the suit of
the president and directors for further damages for such
offence if the sum or sums herein mentioned be not
sufficient to repair and satisfy said damages.

Valuation of
damages.

SEC. 11. And be it enacted, That in case of disagree-
ment between the president and directors of said bridge
company and the owner or owners of any land lying be-
tween said bridge or the river Potomac, to the Chesa-
peake and Ohio Canal for the purchase of said land or
the right of way, that the said president and directors
are hereby authorised to summon a jury according to
the provisions in the eleventh section of the act incor-
porating the Metropolitan Rail Road, who shall value
and ascertain the damage that may be sustained by any
