SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

In force.

SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That one-half of the
capital stock of said Bank, shall be subscribed and bona
fide held by residents and citizens of Washington
county, and that the said Bank shall not be organized
unless one-half of the capital stock necessary to put it
into operation, shall be so subscribed and held.

AN ACT to regulate fisheries in the waters of the Po-
tomac river within the jurisdiction of Maryland, and
to protect the breed of fish therein.

Mar. 10, 1854.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland. The fishing season for shad and herring
in the waters of the Potomac river for each and every
year shall be as follows: from the mouth of said river
to Mattawoman creek, in Charles county, at any time
between the first day of March and the third day of
May; from said creek to the line dividing Prince
George's and Charles counties, between the first day of
March and the eighth day of May, and from said line
to the District of Columbia, between the first day of
March and the fifteenth day of May, and within no
other periods of the year.

Time for fish-
ing.

SEC .2. And be it enacted, That if any person or per-
sons shall haul, drift, anchor or stake any gill nets, seine
or seines of any description, other than those commonly
denominated market seines for summer and winter
fish, and the drifting sturgeon nets not less than eight
inches mesh at any time not within the period fixed by
the first section of this act, he or they shall forfeit all
the boats, seines and fixtures then in his or their pos-
session, and be fined a sum not less than fifty, or more
than one hundred dollars for each and every offence
upon conviction before a justice of the peace of the
county where the same may occur, and the said person
or persons shall be committed to the custody of the
