LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 340.

such license shall be issued by the Clerk of the Court

of Common Pleas, to such person or persons applying
to him for the same, upon payment to the said Clerk of
the sum of three hundred dollars, add of the fees requir-
ed by law, on the issue of licenses to resident traders for
the use of this State, which license shall be in force
and avail until the first day of May, then next ensuing,
and no longer.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That from, and after the
passage of this act, no person or persons, resident or resi-
dents of this State, and of the City of Baltimore, and
licensed to sell therein, shall suffer or permit any person
or persons, not a permanent resident or residents of this
State, and of the said city, and not in his or their regular
service or employ, to sell any goods, wares or merchan-
dise, by sample, card or other specimen, or by written,
primed or trade list, under his or their name, or the name

of his or their firm or co-partnership, or at the store, count-
ing room, or warehouse in his or their occupation, or
used as his or their place of business.

Forfeiture for
violation.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That any person or per-
sons offending against the provisions of this act, shall
be liable to indictment, and upon conviction, shall he
adjudged to pay a sum not less than three hundred dol-
lars, nor more than six hundred dollars, for each and
every offence, one-fourth of which sum shall upon its
being collected, be paid by the sheriff collecting the
same to the informer, and in all prosecutions upon such
indictments, the informer shall be a competent witness.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this act shall go
into effect from and after the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 340.

AN ACT to limit attachments in Cases where laid
in the hands of employers.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That from and after the first day of July
next, the wages or hire of any laborer or other employee
in the hands of the employer, when such wages or hire
shall not exceed the sum of ten dollars, and when the
amount of such wages or hire shall exceed the said
sum, then ten dollars of the amount of such wages or
