LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 287.

Cooper, of the State of Pennsylvania, shall receive the
sum of one thousand dollars each, for the professional

services rendered by them respectively , as prosecuting
counsel, on behalf of the State of Maryland, at the trial

of Castner Hanaway in the United Suites Circuit court
for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania; and that the
Honorable Robert J. Brent, shall receive the additional
sum of two hundred dollars, for his professional ser-
vices as counsel on be half of the State of Maryland, at
the preliminary examination held in Lancaster county,
in the State of Pennsylvania, before alderman Reigart,
in relation to the murder of Edward Gorsuch.

Authority to

pay.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the Treasurer of
the State, be, and he is hereby authorised and directed,
upon the warrant of the Comptroller, to pay the said
several sums of money hereby appropriated, to the said
parlies respectively, out of any unappropriated money
in the Treasury.

Governor to
notify parties.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That his Excellency the
Governor, be, and he is hereby directed, to communi-

cate to the parties aforesaid, notice of the passage of this

act.

In force.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from and after the date of its passage,

AN ACT for the Benefit of the Public Schools of
the City of Baltimore.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly

of Maryland, That the judges of the Orphans' court
of Baltimore city, be, and they are hereby authorised
and required, to order and direct the funds arising from
intestate's estates, that now are, or hereafter may be, ad-
ministered upon in that court, and which remained un-
distributed for want of legal representatives of the in-
testate to claim the same, to be paid to the board of
commissioners of public schools of the city of Baltimore,
to be by said commissioners applied as all other State
or city school funds received by them, to the use and

less the said court shall be satisfied that the intestate left
no legal representatives living at the time of his or her
