CHAPTER 283.

AN ACT empowering the County Commissioners of
Carroll county, and the County Commissioners of
Howard county, to levy a sufficient sum of money to
build a Bridge over the Patapsco Falls at or near

Woodbine.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That from and after the passage of this
act, the county commissioners of Carroll county, and
the county commissioners of Howard county, be, and
they are hereby authorised and empowered, if they
deem it expedient, to levy on the assessable property of
their respective counties, a sufficient sum of money, to
build a substantial bridge over the Patapsco falls, at or
near Woodbine.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall he the duty
of the county commissioners of Carroll county, and the
county commissioners of Howard county, to adopt a
plan according to which said bridge shall be construct-
ed; and of such materials as they may think best, of
which due notice shall be given in one or more news-
papers in each county, for the space of two weeks, for
the purpose of receiving proposals for the building of
the same according to said plan.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the county com-
missioners of Carroll county, and the county commis-
sioners of Howard county, be, and they are hereby
authorised, after the notice aforesaid, to contract with
any person or persons to build said bridge, and to take
bond or bonds, with sufficient security, from any per-
son or persons contracting as aforesaid, for the faithful
performance of their contract.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty

of the county commissioners of each county aforesaid,
to accept the proposal of the lowest bidder or bidders ;
Provided, he or they shall give sufficient security for
the faithful performance of his or their contract for the
same.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That when said bridge
shall have been completed, it shall be a free bridge for
all persons to pass and repass.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the expense of
building said bridge shall be equally divided between
the two counties.
