CHAPTER 271.

AN ACT for the Relief of Upton Scott, of Carroll
County.

Authority to
pay.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly

of Maryland, That the Treasurer is authorised and
directed to pay upon the warrant of the Comptroller, to
Upton Scott, of Carroll county, the sum of seventeen
dollars and thirty-nine cents, being an over payment of
State taxes by said Scott.

In force.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 272.

AN ACT to lay off and locate a Public Road in
Howard County.

Commission-
ers appointed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland. That Samuel Brown Evan Hughes
and Edward Talbot of Howard county, be, and they
are hereby appointed commissioners, and they, or a
majority of them, shall have power to enter upon, sur-
vey, lay off and locate a road, beginning at the north
side of the Frederick Turnpike road, at or near the
village of Ellicott's Mills, near Edward Talbot's Muck-
smith's shop, and running with mid on the bed of the old
road by the late Ezra Fells, along said old road lead-
ing through Mr. Hair's place, and along the line be-
tween Mr. Hair's and Mm. Brooks', and along said old
road to Abram Jones' land, thence along the road to
Rezin Jone's land, thence along Mr. Stockdall's land to
Jeffrey Gansland's land, thence on the line between
said, Stockdall and Gansland's land to the old Frederick
road, down the old Frederick road until opposite Mr.
Armitage's house, thence with the most practical route
to Elysville.

Power of com-
missioners.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said commis-
sioners, or a majority of them, shall have power to
value and assess the damages, if any, sustained by the
owners of the lands, over which they may locate said
road, taking into consideration the advantage as well
as the disadvantage, that may result to the said owners of
lands, and to cause the same to be surveyed, and a plat
