CHAPTER 241.

CHAP. 242.

AN ACT to alter and amend an Act incorporating
the Maryland Institute for the Promotion of Me-
chanic Arts, passed December session, eighteen
hundred and forty-nine, chapter one hundred and
fourteen, so as to allow said Institute to establish
a Department of Analytic Chemistry, and confer
Diplomas upon Graduates thereof.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly

of Maryland, That the Maryland Institute far the Pro-
motion of the Mechanic Arts, for the purpose of ex-
lending its means of education, is hereby authorised to
establish a Department of Analytic and Applied Che-
mistry, and to appoint, a Professor, and as many ad-
juncts for said Department, as the requirements of the
same may, from time to lime, demand.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the Maryland In-
stitute shall have power to graduate students in Che-
mistry, and to grant diplomas to such as, after exami-
nation and recommendation by the professor, are wor-
thy of the distinction.

AN ACT to amend an Act entitled, an Act autho-
rising the appointment of an Inspector and Wood
Corder, at Clarksville, and its vicinity, in Balti-
more county, passed at December session, eighteen
hundred and forty-seven, chapter two hundred and

fifty-one.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly

of Maryland, That the act entitled, an act authorising
the appointment of an inspector and wood corder, and
to regulate the cording of fire wood, brought for sale or
consumption, by the cars or otherwise, to Clarksville or
its vicinity, in Baltimore county, be, and the same is
hereby extended, and its provisions shall apply to all
cord word brought within the limits prescribed in said
act, whether intended for fire wood, burning of lime, or
other purposes, and that the same penalty shall be incur-
