1852.

SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That any pilot who
may be licensed to act as such, agreeably to the provi-
sions of this act, may charge and recover for their ser-
vices, such reasonable compensation as may be con-
tracted for by such pilot, and the owner, master, agent
or consignee of any vessel which may be piloted by
him.

SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That the act passed at
November session, eighteen hundred and three, chapter
sixty-three, entitled, an act to establish pilots, and regu-
late their fees, and all the acts supplementary thereto,
relating; to pilots and pilotage, are hereby repealed;

Provided, that nothing herein contained shall be so
construed as to compel any master, owner or agent, to
to pay any pilot, except he be employed as pilot.

CHAPTER 189.

Proviso.

AN ACT to provide for a Public Ferry at Mata-
poni Landing in Worcester county.

14,1852.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly

of Maryland, That Charles Parker, Matthias N. Lind-
sey and Thomas D. Evans, of Worcester county, be,
and they are hereby constituted commissioners to ex-
amine and locale a suitable place to construct a public
ferry across the Pocomoke river, at or near Mataponi
landing on said river, and also to lay out, open and
construct a public road leading from said ferry, to in-
tersect with the public road running from Mataponi
landing to Lindseyville or Trapptown, on the east side

of said Pocomoke river, and also to lay out and open
a public road from said ferry, to intersect with the pub-
lic road running from Adams' wharf, on the west side

of said river.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said commis-
sioners, or a majority of them, shall have full power
and authority to contract for the construction of said
roads and ferry, with a suitable boat, wharves, and all
the necessary appurtenances, and to assess all damages

sum total for the construction of said roads and ferry,
and award for damages, and so forth, shall not exceed
the sum of one thousand dollars.
