force, operation and effect, to all intents and purposes
whatsoever, as if the said acknowledgment had been
made before two justices of the peace for Howard Dis-
trict of Anne Arundel county.

CHAP. 16.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from and after the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 16.

AN ACT to Enlarge the Powers of the Judges of
the Circuit Courts, and of the Judge of the Supe-
rior Court of Baltimore City, in the particulars
therein mentioned.

24, 1852.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly

of Maryland, That the judges of the several Judicial
Circuits, and the judge of the Superior Court of Balti-
more city, shall each, in his respective circuit, have and
exercise all the powers conferred, and discharge all the
duties imposed by law upon the Chancellor of Mary-
land, before the adoption of the present Constitution.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That each of the said
circuit judges shall have power and authority to grant
injunctions, and to pass orders and decrees in equity,
and to make orders at common law, as also to issue
writs of habeas corpus, while residing or sojourning in
any part of his circuit, to take effect within the same,
or in any other part of such circuit.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That so long as the
judge of the sixth circuit shall be authorised to hold
the Circuit Court for Baltimore county within the city

of Baltimore, he shall, while sojourning within the
said city, possess the power and authority in regard to
the sixth circuit as is provided for in the second section

of this act.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That in order to enable
the circuit judges more effectually to perform their re-
spective duties, they may require, in writing, the origi-
nal papers in a cause, or transcripts or abstracts thereof,
to be produced before them, in their discretion.

proper to be made defendants to proceedings in Chan-
cery, reside some one or more in the county, and some
one or more in the city of Baltimore, or where some one
