CHAPTER 144.

26, 1852.

AN ACT to authorise the County Commissioners of
Frederick County, in their discretion, from, time
to time, to appoint Road Commissioners to ex-
amine and report upon the best means of Improv-
ing the Road leading from Fredericktown through
Hamburg to the Washington County Line, and to
take steps to improve said Road.

Authority to
appoint.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly

of Maryland, That the county commissioners of Fre-
derick county, be and they are hereby, in their discre-
tion, authorized to appoint, from time to time, two
road commissioners, whose duly it shall be to survey,
examine, and report upon the best means of improving
such portion of the road, lending from Fredericktown
through Hamburg to the Washington County Line, as
the said county commissioners may designate, in the
order appointing said road commissioners.

Improvement
where to be-
gin.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That in ordering the ex-
amination and improvement of said road, the county
commissioners shall begin with thai portion of the road
lying next to Fredericktown.

Widening and
grading of
road.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That it shall be competent
for said county commissioners to direct the widening
and grading of said road, and such other means of im-
provement, as they may deem necessary.

Supervisors.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That upon the return of
the report of said road commissioners, it shall be law-
ful for said county commissioners, in their discretion, to
appoint or designate supervisors, to make all or any
part of the improvements which they may direct, and
to asses such sums of money, as may be required for
such improvements.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That should it be deem-
ed necessary by said road commissioners to widen said
road, then it shall be their duty to estimate the da-
mages accruing to each individual, in consequence of
the widening of said road, and to make a return of
the same, taking into consideration, also, the advan-
tages that may be derived from said road; and they
shall also estimate and make return of the amount of
money necessary for making the improvements they
may recommend.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That said road com-
missioners, whilst engaged on actual duty, shall be al-
