LAWS OF MARYLAND.

1811.

all sums of money belonging to the said corporation
in trust, for the use, and subject to the order and dis-
position of the president and managers of the said cor-
poration for the time being, and shall be able and ca-
pable in law to sue and be sued, plead and be implead-
ed, answer and be answered, defend and be defended
in all or any court of justice whatsoever; and also to
make, have and use a common seal, and the same to
break, alter or renew at pleasure.

Charter shall be
available in law.

AND BE IT ENACTED, That this charter and
act of incorporation, and every part thereof, shall be
good and available in all things in the law, according
to the true intent and meaning thereof, and shall be
construed, reputed and adjudged in all cases most
favorably on behalf of the said institution, so as
most effectually to answer the valuable ends intended
to be answered thereby.

Time to remain
in force.

AND BE IT ENACTED, That this act shall be
and continue in force until the first day of November
eighteen hundred and twenty-seven, and until the end
of the next session of the General Assembly that may
happen thereafter.

 

CHAPTER 87.

Passed Dec. 27,
1811.

An act to authorise a Lottery or Lotteries in the
city of Baltimore.

Managers au-
thorised to dis-
pose of tickets.

BE IT ENACTED ly the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Right Reverend John Carroll,
Reverend Enoch Fen wick, David Williamson, Willi-
am Jenkins, Luke Tiernan, Basil S. Elder, Philip Lau-
renson, Charles Carroll, junior, John Welsh, Abra-
ham White, junior, John Carrier, Doctor P. Chatard,
Reverend Mr. Moranville, Matthew Bennett, Michael
Riddlemoser, John Hunter, or a majority of them be,
and they are hereby authorised to propose a scheme
or schemes of a lottery or lotteries for raising the
sum of fifty thousand dollars, for the purpose of finish-
ing and completing the Roman Catholic Cathedral,
in the city of Baltimore, and to sell and dispose of the
tickets therein

Managers shall
give bond.

AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said Right
Reverend John Carroll, Reverend Enoch Fenwick,
David Williamson, William Jenkins, Luke Tiernan,
Basil S. Elder, Philip Laurenson, Charles Carroll, ju-
nior, John Welsh, Abraham White, junior, John Car-
rier, Doctor P, Chatard, Reverend Mr. Moranville,
Matthew Bennett, Michael Riddlemoser and John
