CHAPTER 24

Passed Dec. 27,
1811.

An Act for opening and extending a street and
communication between Gough and Wolfe-
streets, in the city of Baltimore.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, It is represented to this Genera!
Assembly, by a number of the inhabitants of the city
of Baltimore, that their convenience would be materi-
ally promoted by the opening and extending a street
in the said city, connecting together Wolfe-street and
Gough-street; and the said representation appearing
just: Therefore.,

Commissioners
are empowered
to extend said
street. Their
duties, &c.

BE If ENACTED by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the city commissioners be, and they
are Hereby empowered to open and extend the street
called Wolfe-street in the city of Baltimore, com-
mencing at its intersection with Prince-street, and
continuing the same course of Wolfe-street, with the
breadth of Wolfe-street, until it meets a continuation
of Gough-street, in the said city, from its intersection
with Harford-street, extended with the breadth of
Gough-street, until it meets the said continuation of
Wolfe-street; and the said street and communication,
when so opened and extended, and when the valua-
tion and assessment hereinafter directed to be made,
shall have taken place, shall be deemed and taken,
and is hereby declared to be a public street and high-
way forever thereafter; and the said commissioners'
arc hereby required to return a plot ascertaining the
limits and extent of the said street, when so extended
and opened, to the register of the city of Baltimore,
who shall receive and file the same as part of the plot
of the city of Baltimore.

Sheriff shall
summon per-
sons to value
damages; their
duty.

AND BE IT ENACTED, That the sheriff of
Baltimore county, after Laving given at least ten days
notice in one of the news-papers of the city of Balti-
more, shall, at any time before the first Monday of
May next, summon twelve freeholders, inhabitants of
the said city, not interested in the premises, who, be-
ing first sworn to assess and value what damages,
shall be sustained by any person or persons whomso-
ever, by reason of the opening and extending the
aforesaid street, (taking all benefits and inconvenien-
cies into consideration, ) shall proceed to assess and
value what damages may be sustained by any person
or persons whomsoever, by opening and extending
the said street; and shall also declare what sum of
money each individual benefitted thereby shall respec-
