LAWS OF MARYLAND.

1811.

beannially on any day from the first to the fifteenth
day of February, inclusive, on giving five days pre-
vious notice thereof, in any news-paper printed in the
city of Baltimore, and that the commissioners consti-
tuted by this act, or who may hereafter be elected, (as
the case may be) shall continue to act until such new
election shall take place.

Acts contrary to
this law are re-
pealed.

6. BE IT ENACTED, That so much of the seve-
ral acts to which this is an additional supplement, as is
contrary to, or inconsistent with the provisions of this
act, be, and the same is hereby repealed.

CHAPTER 19.

Passed Dec. 27,
1811.

An act to authorise the drawing of a Lottery or
lotteries in Middletown, in Frederick county.

Managers au-
thorised to dis-
pose of tickets
free of tax.

BE, IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Frederick Stemble, senior, Thomas
Powel, Adam Routsawn, junior, Jacob Herring, Ni-
cholas Bowlus, Conrad Young, (of Jacob) and Chris-
tian Kogle, or such of them as shall enter into bond as
herein after required, be and they are hereby authoris-
ed to raise by lottery or lotteries, at any place within
this state, a sum not exceeding two thousand dollars,
and sell and dispose of the tickets at any place within
the same, free from any tax.

Managers shall
give bond, and
directing their
duties.

AND BE IT ENACTED, That before any of the
persons above named shall proceed to make sale of
any ticket or tickets, they shall give bond in double
the sum to be raised by said lottery or lotteries, condi-
tioned that, they will well and truly apply so much of
the money arising therefrom, within six months after
the drawing thereof, as shall satisfy the fortunate ad-
ventures, for prizes drawn by them, and after deduct-
ing the necessary expenses, within two years thereaf-
ter apply the residue for the purpose of building a
steeple to the new church now erecting in said
town, and also for the purchasing of bells to put in
the same.

Bond to be
lodged with the
clerk of county
court, upon
which suits
may be institut-
ed.

AND BE IT ENACTED, That the bond so as
aforesaid to be entered into, be lodged with the clerk
of Frederick county court, and upon the same, or any
office copy thereof, suit or suits may be brought for
any breach or non-compliance with the conditions
thereof!
