CHAPTER 550.

An act to incorporate a Company to make a Turnpike
from Conowingo to Bel-Air.

Company to
make turnpike
road.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That a company shall be incorporated
to make a turnpike road from Conowingo to Bel-Air,
in Harford county.

When books are
to be opened.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That subscription books
shall be opened on the first Monday in May next, in
Harford county and the city of Baltimore, for a capital
slock of said company of forty thousand dollars, in
two thousand shares of twenty dollars each, under
the direction of the following commissioners, or any
one of them, namely: in Harford county, Otho Scott,
Henry A. Silver. William Lee Amos, Thornton Wal-
ton, Robert W. Holland, Alexander Norris, Cheyney
Hoskins, David G. McCoy, John Lewin, junior, Doc-
tor John Sappington, and Henry Richardson; at Bal-
timore, by David Lee Maulsby, William Whitelock,
and Charles B. Green.

First meeting,
how called.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That when five hun-
dred shares of said stock shall have been subscribed,
the commissioners shall give notice, in newspapers of
said county, of the time and place appointed for the
subscribers to meet to organize said institution, and
choose, by plurality of voles by ballot, a president
and eight directors, five of whom shall form a quo-
rum, a treasurer, and such other officers as they shall
deem necessary to conduct the affairs of the company
until the first Monday in January thereafter, and
until a new election, and to make such bye-laws as
they shall deem necessary, and on the first Monday
in January in every year, or within ten days thereaf-
ter, said company shall meet, for the same purposes,
at such place as the president and directors shall ap-
point, and in all elections by stockholders, each share
Shall be entitled to one vote.

Incorporated,
&c.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the stockholders in,
the said company shall be and they are hereby created
and erected into a body politic and corporate, by the
name and style of the Harford Turnpike Company,
and by the same name the said subscribers, and their
successors, shall have succession during the continu-
ance of this incorporation, and shall be capable of
sueing and being sued, answering and being an-
