CHAPTER 540.
|
|
|
|
An act to provide for taking the sense of the people of
Baltimore County, on the propriety of separating
said County from the City of Baltimore.
|

WHEREAS, it hath been represented that the inter-
est and convenience of the people of Baltimore coun-
ty, would be greatly promoted, and the administration
of justice in said county, be rendered more speedy
and efficient, if the said county were separated from
the city of Baltimore — Therefore,
|
Preamble.
|
|
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That at the election to be held on the
second Wednesday in May next, after the passage of
this act, it shall and may be lawful for the qualified
voters of the several election districts of Baltimore
county, to elect three persons for and from each elec-
tion district, who shall he styled commissioners of the
several, districts whose duly it shall be to meet on the
first Monday in June next, at some central place in
said county, and there determine and fix upon a
suitable site for the erection of the public buildings
for said county, and in fixing upon said site, they the
commissioners of the districts, shall take into con-
sideration the general interest of the people of said
county, and the facilities of access and departure from
said site, and the decision of a majority of the said
commissioners so met in convention, shall be declared
to he final, and said commissioners or a majority of
them, are hereby authorised to receive any gift or
gifts of any lot or lots of land for the said site, on be-
half of said county.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That the judges of
election who shall act as such, shall make returns of
the elections hereby authorised to be held, in the
same manner returns are now made by law in the
