pensations; to make such bye-laws, rules and regula-
tions as they may deem proper for conducting the af-
fairs of the corporation, and for the government of pro-

prietors of lots and visitors to the cemetery; provided,
the same be not contrary to the constitution and laws of
this State, and of the United States; they shall keep a
record of all their proceedings, and of all those owning
lots in said cemetery, and the number or designation of
said lots.

Proviso.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said directors
shall cause to be made out an accurate plot of the grounds
in said cemetery, which shall be recorded in a book of
said corporation, and a copy thereof shall be deposited
with the clerk of Washington county, to be recorded
among the land records of said county, after which the
said cemetery grounds shall not be liable to any tax or
imposition whatever, forever; and all additions which
may be thereafter acquired under the provisions of this
act, shall, in like manner be recorded,and shall thence-
forward be free and exempt in like manner, from all

tax or imposition whatever, forever.

Exempt from
taxation.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the within named
persons shall be directors of said corporation, until the
first Monday of January, in the year eighteen hundred
and fifty-one, and until successors be elected agreeably
to the provisions of this act, and they shall, after ten
persons become proprietors of lots, call a general meet-
ing of the proprietors, to be held at such time and place
as they may designate, by notice to be given in the
manner hereinbefore prescribed, to elect directors to con-
duct the affairs of the corporation until the first Monday
of January then next ensuing, and until successors be
chosen, and for the transaction of such other business as
the proprietors may deem necessary.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That every lot conveyed
in said cemetery shall be used for the purpose of sepul-
ture alone, and for none other, and held by the propri-
etor as real estate, and shall not be subject to attach-
ment or execution.

Lots exempted
from execution.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That a certificate signed
by the president and attested by the secretary, under the
seal of the corporation of the ownership of any lot or
lots in said cemetery, or in any addition or additions
thereto, shall in all respects, have the same effect as du-
ly executed, acknowledged and recorded conveyance
from said corporation would have, and said lot or lots
shall be assignable only on the books of the corporation,
in person or by attorney, and upon the surrender of the
