CHAPTER 455.

Passed
March 9, 1850.

An act to change the manner of electing the Board of
Commissioners of Anne Arundel County, and for
abolishing the present Board.

Commissioners
to be elected.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That at, the next October election, the
legal voters of each and every Election District of
Anne Arundel County, shall by ballot, vote separate-
ly for, and elect by districts, one person as commis-
sioner, for each of said election districts, who shall
be a resident of the district for which he shall be so
elected, and shall have the same qualifications as are
by law required for members of the General Assem-
bly.

Qualification of
commissioners.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the persons so
elected shall qualify in the same manner and form as
now prescribed by law for the qualification of com-
missioners of the county, and when so qualified, shall
constitute and form the board of commissioners for
Anne Arundel county, and shall be invested with all
the prerogatives, powers and privileges, that are now
by law vested in the present board of commissioners
for Anne Arundel county.

Classification
of members.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted. That the commission-
ers so elected and qualified, shall arrange themselves
by lot into classes, two in each class, number one,
two and three, class number one shall and is here by
declared to be elected for one year, and class number
two shall and is hereby declared to be elected for two
years, and class number three shall and is hereby
declared to be elected for three years, so that the term
of service of a class as aforesaid, shall expire at the
end or termination of every twelve months, and at
the expiration of the terms of the classes, as hereinbe-
fore enumerated, it shall and is hereby declared to be
the duty of the legal voters of the election districts,
in which the term of service of the commissioners
composing the different classes, shall have expired,
and they are hereby authorised to elect persons to
fill the vacancies which shall occur by the expired
terms as aforesaid, agreeable to the provisions of the
first section of this act.

Vacancies—

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the persons so elect-
ed to fill the vacancies occuring by the expired terms
as aforesaid, shall in all respects qualify as hereinbe-
fore required.
