CHAPTER 454.

CHAP. 454.

A supplement to the act of eighteen hundred and thir-

ty -seven, chapter three hundred and sixteen.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That there shall be appointed by the
Governor, by and with the consent of the Senate, an
Inspector and weigher of coal, for the city of Balti-
more.

SEC. 2 And be it further enacted, That it shall
be the duty of the said inspector, at least twice in each

and every week, to visit the several coal yards in
said city, and to weigh and inspect the coal sold
from said yards, either before or after it shall leave the
yard from which it is sold.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the said in-
spector shall appoint one from each and every coal
yard, whose duty it shall be to weigh and measure
all coal sold from the yard, to which he is attached,
and who shall take an oath before a justice of the
peace, faithfully to comply with the first and second
section of the act of eighteen hundred and thirty-
seven, chapter three hundred and sixteen.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That it shall be the

duty of the said inspector to weigh or measure, as the
case may be, all coal sold in the said city, in any
other places, that the regular coal yards, for which he
shall be entitled to receive the sum of ten cents, for
each ton of hard coal weighed, and the same amount
for every thirty bushels of bituminous coal measured.

Compensation.

SEC. 5 And be it further enacted, That the said in-
spector shall receive, as a compensation for his servi-
ces the sum of two cents for each ton of hard coal,
and the same amount for every thirty bushels of bitu-
minous coal sold in said city, to be paid in each
case by the seller of the coal.

Additional
compensation.

SEC. 6. And be it further enacted, That this act
shall only apply to coal sold by retail in said city, and

not to coal sold by wholesale, or brought to said
city for exportation.
