CHAPTER 431.

An act for the Incorporation of Goethe Lodge, Num-
ber Two, of the United Order of Independent Bro-
thers, and to Incorporate the Metamora Tribe,
Number One, of the Independent Order of Red
Men, of the State of Maryland.

CHAP. 431.

1850.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That John Anders, Ludwig Horst, George
Puhl, John Bear, George Hoehn, Theodore Munch,
Henry Berkheimer, Jacob Brail, William Schelhas, and
others, the officers and members of the Goethe Lodge,
number two, of the United Order of Independent Bro-
thers, attached to the Supreme Council of Maryland,
and their successors, be and they are hereby incorpo-
rated and made a body politic and corporate, by the
name and number of Goethe Lodge, number two, of the
United Order of Independent Brothers, of the State of
Maryland, and by that name may sue and be sued, and
have a common seal, and the same at their pleasure,
alter, and be entitled to use the powers and privileges
incident to such corporation.

Incorporated,
&c.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corpora-
tion shall be capable of taking and holding real and per-
sonal estate, not exceeding in value the sum of twelve
thousand dollars, which estate shall never be divided
among the members of the corporation, but shall de-
scend to their successors for the benevolent relief of the
sick and distressed, the education of the orphans of its
members, and for the promotion of their purposes
generally.

corporation.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this corporation
shall not be permitted to issue any note, token, device,
or scrip, or other evidence of debt, to he used as cur-
rency.

Banking forbid.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this corporation
shall have power to make bye-laws for their govern-
ment, and to alter and amend the same at pleasure;
provided, they do not conflict with the laws of the State
of Maryland, of the United States, or the laws of the
Supreme Council of Maryland.

Proviso.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That this act of incor-
poration shall enure for thirty years from its passage,
and that, the Legislature reserves to itself the right to
alter and amend this act of incorporation, at pleasure.

Rights reserved.

SEC 6. And be it enacted, That Conrad Schlott,
Martin Heitzell, S. T. Ruff, Frederick Kitzinger, Louis
