1849.

LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 407.

dred and forty-seven, eighteen hundred and forty-
eight, and eighteen hundred and forty-nine, be and
are hereby made, to all intents and purposes, legal and
obligatory upon the inhabitants of said county, the
same as if the levies for the said several years for
State and county assessments had been made by said
commissioners at the same time, and upon the same
property lists, and notwithstanding any omission or
defect in said levies by the said commissioners.

To take new
bonds.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That for the balance of
taxes, both of State and county, in the said county,
for the said recited years remaining uncollected, the
said commissioners are hereby required and empow-
ered to demand, receive and approve of new bonds
from the collectors entitled to collect said balances,
with penalties double the amount remaining uncol-
lected, and said collectors for that purpose shall return
a list of said balances under oath to said commission-
ers, and the said collectors or collector, after giving of
such new bonds, shall be invested with all the powers of
enforcing collections, contained within the provisions
of the act passed at March session, eighteen hundred
and forty-one, chapter twenty-three, and its supple-

ments; provided, that nothing herein contained shall
be construed to affect the liability of the said collec-
tor or collectors, and his or their sureties, upon the
bonds already given by the said collector or collectors,
for the said years eighteen hundred and forty-three,
eighteen hundred and forty-four, eighteen hundred
and forty-seven, eighteen hundred and forty eight,
and eighteen hundred and forty-nine.

Former pay-
ments to bar
present claim.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the payments
made heretofore by the inhabitants of said county to
the collector or collectors of State and county assess-
ments, for such assessments, be and the same are here-
by made valid and effectual to bar any future claim on
the part of the State, or of the said county, for said
years so paid, and the receipts given the collector or
collectors to the tax-payers, are hereby declared to be
conclusive evidence of the fact of payment.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from and after the day of its passage.
