CHAP. 62.

CHAPTER 62.

Passed Feb. 4,
1850.

An act to allow Benjamin Swingley, former Collector
of Taxes in Washington County, further time to
complete his collections.

Time allowed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly,
of Maryland, That Benjamin Swingley, late collector
of State and county taxes, for the year eighteen hun-
dred and forty-three, and county taxes for the year
eighteen hundred and forty-four, in Washington coun-
ty, be and he, or his agent, or attornies, are hereby
authorised to collect any and all taxes, or balances of
taxes, due him or them, and now remaining uncol-
lected for the several years in which he was collector
of the taxes in said county, in the same manner and
with the same privileges and powers he could or might
have done within the time allowed by law.

In force.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the authority here-
by given, shall continue until the first day of June,
eighteen hundred and fifty-two.

Affidavit to bar
claim.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That if any person,
against whom there is a claim presented by the said
Benjamin Swingley, shall make affidavit, before any
justice of the peace for said county, that he or she
hath paid the same, it shall forever bar such claim.

Not to affect.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said Benja-
min Swingley have no power, under this act, to en-
force the collection of any taxes against any real or
personal property, which may have been conveyed or
transferred since said taxes shall have accrued and

become due; and provided further, that before the
said Benjamin Swingley shall proceed to collect taxes
under the powers given to him in the first section of
this act, he shall attach to each account for such taxes,
an affidavit that the amount is due and unpaid, and
that he has received no security or other satisfaction
for the same.

Now in force.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect and be in force from the date of its passage.
