CHAP. 61.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the commissioners
of said county be and they are hereby authorised to
levy upon the assessable property of said county, such
sum or sums of money as may be necessary to carry

sum levied shall not exceed fifteen hundred dollars in
any one year.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That after the erection
of a poor house on said farm, to be purchased as afore-
said, and after the same shall have been prepared for
use, the commissioners aforesaid shall require, when-
ever they may deem it just, those indigent persons
who receive pensions by county assessment to relin-
quish the same, and repair to the protection which
may be afforded by said poor house, hereby autho-
rised to be established, and if such persons, when so
required, shall refuse or neglect to comply, they shall
be debared such pensions by county assessment.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty
of the Commissioners of Washington county to have
this act printed and published in the most public
places in each election district of said county, at least
three weeks before the election of Commissioner, to
be held on the first Wednesday in October next, and
every legally qualified voter in said county is requested
to put upon his ballot, for the farm, or against the
farm, and the judges of election are required to have
the same recorded, and if it shall appear, on compar-
ing the vote, that a majority of legal voters of said
county are in favor of the said farm for the poor, as
provided for in this act, it shall be the duty of the
Commissioners of said county, to carry into effect the
provisions of this act, but if it shall appear, on com-
paring the votes, that a majority of the legal voters in
said county are against the provisions of this act, the
said act shall be null and void.

ed to people.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That all acts inconsis-
tent with this act, be and the same are hereby re-
pealed.
