tain such limits, by their meeting together before the
first election for commissioners, and they, or a majority
of them, shall employ a surveyor to run out and lay off
the limits of the corporation, commencing from the cen-
tre of the bridge in the said village, named in this act,
or they may proceed themselves to take such action in
laying out and fixing the lines or boundaries for said
limits without a surveyor, at their discretion, and the
commissioners hereafter elected, may allow the survey-

or such compensation as they may think proper; provi-
ded, he should perform any services, and make return
of their proceedings to the judge of the first election to
be held, before said election takes place, and said judge
shall preserve the same, to be given over by him to the
commissioners, with the election returns, subject to
such disposition as the commissioners elected shall
determine.

Proviso.

SEC. 14. And be it enacted, That all acts or parts of
acts inconsistent with this act, be and the same are
hereby repealed.

CHAPTER 322.

Inconsistent
acts repealed.

An act entitled, a supplement to an act passed Decem-
ber Session, eighteen hundred and thirty-nine, enti-
tied, an act to incorporate East Newmarket, in Dor-
chester county.

Passed
Feb. 25, 1850.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the commissioners of the cor-

poration of the town of East Newmarket, in Dorchester
county, are hereby authorised and empowered to lay
out and widen the several streets in said town, and
to remove all obstructions and nuisances to effect

deem it proper so to do; and provided also, that in no
case shall they have power to extend the width of any
street to more than forty feet.

Provisoes.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all damages done
the property of citizens of said town, by the opening

and extension of said streets, shall bo paid for by said
corporation.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That Kendall M. Jacobs,
John B. Leckie, and Thomas Helsby, be and they are
hereby appointed commissioners to survey, locate, and
