CHAPTER 299.

CHAP. 299.

An act to incorporate the Town of Westminster, in
Carroll County, by the name of the City of West-
minster.

Passed Feb. 28,
1850.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the town of Westminster, in Carroll
county, shall be, and is hereby erected into a city, by
the name of the city of Westminster, and the inhabi-
tants thereof shall constitute a body politic and corpo-
rate, under the name of the mayor and common council
of Westminster, and as such shall have succession, and
by such name may sue and be sued, may use a com-
mon seal, which may be altered at pleasure, may re-
ceive real and personal estate for the use of said corpo-
ration, and enjoy all privileges proper and necessary to
effect and carry out the object and intention of this
act.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the limits of said
city shall be as follows, namely: beginning on the south
east at a stone planted near the Baltimore and Reisters-
town turnpike, formerly a boundary stone, between Bal-
timore and Frederick counties, and running north-east-
erly, at a right angle with said turnpike, four hundred
yards, thence westerly and northerly, and running par-
allel with the course of said turnpike, and four hundred
yards therefrom, to the line of Adam Gilbert's land, lo-
cated at or near a public road leading from said turn-
pike to Abraham Wampler's mill, thence westerly and
southerly with the outlines of said Gilbert's land, to a
point four hundred yards southwest of the turnpike
leading from Westminster to Uniontown, thence easter-
ly and southerly and parallel with last said turnpike
and the aforesaid Baltimore and Reisterstown turnpike,
and four hundred yards from each, to the line formerly
dividing Baltimore and Frederick counties, and thence
with last said line to the place of beginning.

SEC. 3 And be it enacted, That Michael Barnitz,
Horatio Price and Otho Shipley, shall be and they are
hereby appointed commissioners and judges, and that
they, or any two of them, shall give at least two weeks
