LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 264.

Compensation.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said board
of examiners shall be entitled to receive as a com-
pensation for their services as aforesaid, the sum of
two dollars from each and every applicant to whom
they shall grant a certificate as aforesaid, to be paid
by said applicant at the time of the reception of said
certificate.

Qualification of
teachers.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the trustees of the
several primary school districts of Queen Anne's
county, shall not employ any person as a teacher for
any of said schools who shall not produce at the
time of his application, a certificate as aforesaid from

Proviso.

the aforesaid board of examiners; provided, that no-
thing herein contained shall prevent the said trustees
from employing a person without such certificate,
when there is no person applying having such cer-
tificate.

Duty of the
treasurer.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said commis-
sioners shall appoint annually, a treasurer of the
school fund of said county, whose duty it shall be to
take charge of all monies derived from the State, and
from said county, for the use of the primary schools
of said county, and the same to safe keep and pay
over to the order of any two or more of the said com-
missioners, and the said treasurer, before receiving
any of the said funds, shall give bond annually to the
State of Maryland, with such surety or sureties as
may be approved by the said commissioners, and in
such penal sum as they may direct, for the faithful
discharge of the duties of his said office, which said
bond shall be liable at the suit of the said State for
the use of the said commissioners, for all breaches of
the condition thereof, and the said commissioners are
hereby authorised and directed to allow to the said
treasurer such compensation for his services as afore-
said, as they in their judgment may think right and
proper.

Annual report.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the said commis-
sioners are hereby required, and directed to make an
annual report of their proceedings to the Orphans
court of Queen Anne's county, particularly setting
forth among other things the several amounts receiv-
ed and disbursed for the use of the primary schools
of said county, said reports by the order of the said
court, to be published in the newspapers printed in
said county.

Inconsistent
acts repealed.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That all acts or parts
of acts inconsistent with this act, be and the same
are hereby repealed.
