CHAP. 237.

said original act named, that the sum of five thousand
dollars, or one-twelfth of the nett proceeds authorised
to be raised by the act to which this is a supplement,
shall be paid by the lottery commissioners of this
State, to John Smith, David Foutz, and John Roberts,
of Carroll county, to be by them applied in aid of the
completion of the Westminster and Hagerstown Turn-
pike Road, from its present terminus to Union town —
Therefore,

Commissioners
to receive sub-
scriptions.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the commissioners named in the
first section of the act of eighteen hundred and forty-
six, chapter two hundred and forty-two, and their suc-
cessors, be and they are hereby authorised and em-
powered to receive subscriptions of stock to aid in the
completion of the road authorised by the act to which
this is a supplement, and for that purpose, that the
said commissioners in the said original act named, or
their successors, shall be, and they are hereby autho-
rised to open books of subscription at Westminster,
or elsewhere, for a capital stock of ten thousand dol-
lars, in shares of fifty dollars each, and the said com-
missioners, or their successors, shall, on or before the
first day of May next, procure a book or books, and
enter therein as follows, namely: we whose names are
hereunto subscribed, do promise to pay to the com-
missioners named in the first section of the act of
eighteen hundred and forty-six, chapter two hundred
and forty-two, or to their successors, the sum of fifty
dollars for every share of stock set opposite to our
respective names, and that the said commissioners
shall give notice, in one or more newspapers published
in Frederick and Carroll counties, for one month, at
least, of the times when, and the place where, the said
books will be open to receive the subscriptions of
stock authorised by this act, at which time and place
at least two of the said commissioners shall attend,
and shall permit and suffer all persons who shall offer
to subscribe not exceeding five shares of fifty dollars
each, in person or by attorney duly authorised, in said
books, which books shall be kept open for the purpose
of receiving such subscriptions, at least four hours
every day, for the space of two clays, or until the full
sum of ten thousand dollars shall be subscribed, and
if at the expiration of the said two days, the said re-
quired amount shall not be subscribed, the said com-
missioners shall open the books on the following day,
when it shall be the duty of the said commissioners
to receive subscriptions from any person or persons,
