CHAPTER 214.

CHAP. 214.

An act to incorporate the Chesapeake Lodge, number
fifty-nine, of the Independent Order of Odd-Fellows,
in Queen Anne's county.

1850.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That John C. Tolson, William H. Ma-
lar, Samuel Harper, Isaac Winchester, Roderick W.
Eareckson, John S. Bryan, John Denny, Moses C.
Legg, and others, officers and members of Chesapeake
Lodge, number fifty-nine, of the Independent Order of
Odd-Fellows, and by that name they, and their succes-
sors, shall and may at all times hereafter be capable in
law to have, receive and retain to them and their suc-
cessors, property, real and personal, also devises and be-
quests of any person or persons, bodies corporate or
politic, capable of making the same, and the same, at
their pleasure, to transfer or dispose of in such manner

as they may think proper; provided always, that the
said corporation or body politic shall not at any time
hold or possess property, real, personal or mixed, ex-
ceeding in total value the sum of twelve thousand
dollars.

Proviso.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corporation,
and their successors, by the name and title aforesaid,
shall be forever hereafter capable in law to sue or be
sued, plead and be impleaded, answer and be answered
unto, defend and be defended, in all or any courts of
justice, and before all and any judges, officers, or per-
son or persons whatsoever, in all and singular actions,

matters or demands whatsoever.

Corporate
powers.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That it shall and may be
lawful for the corporation to have a common seal for
their use, and the same, at their will and pleasure, to
change, alter or make anew, from time to time, as they
may think best, and shall, in general, have and exer-
cise all such rights, privileges and immunities as by law
are incident or necessary to corporations of this charac-
ter, and to enable the members of said Order to exercise
all tilings concerning the design of this corporation,
which is hereby declared to be the benevolent relief of

contained shall be deemed or taken to confer banking

privileges.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted. That this act of incorpo-
ration shall continue and exist for thirty years from its
