CHAPTER 212.

CHAP. 212.

An act regulating the compensation of the County Sur-
veyor, and prescribing certain duties therein named,
so far as the same relates to Carroll county.

WHEREAS, By an act regulating officers' fees, by the
General Assembly of Maryland, at the session of seven-
teen hundred and seventy-nine, chapter twenty-five, a
table of fees was given, by which the surveyors of the
several counties have their services rated by on allowance
in tobacco; and whereas, since said period, the character
of surveys is much changed, and the rates then regulat-
ing the surveyor's fees do not cover the necessary labor
they now have to undergo, but leave a portion there-
of to be covered and met by usage, without the sanction
of law — Therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the survey or of Carroll, be and
he is hereby authorised to charge for his individual ser-
vices, under warrants of survey or resurvey, directed
from the land office, under orders or warrants of resur-
vey, directed from the county court, and under orders
directed from the Chancellor, a per diem of three dol-
lars for each day he may necessarily be engaged in per-
forming the duty the said orders or warrants may enjoin,
and the said surveyor, when the same shall be required
by the persons for whom the services shall be rendered,
shall state his account of such services, under oath.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty
of the present and succeeding surveyors of Carroll coun-
ty, to keep a regular alphabetical record of the surveyor's
duplicate certificate of all surveys and resurveys here-
after made, by virtue of warrants or orders issued as
aforesaid, and that the record book or books shall be pro-

cured at the cost of the county; provided, the same shall
not exceed the sum of twenty-five dollars, and that the
said record books shall be the property of the county,
and shall be kept in the surveyor's office, and be handed
down to the successive county surveyors.
