the same to break, alter or renew at their pleasure, and
also to ordain and establish such bye-laws and ordi-
nances as shall appear necessary for regulating the tem-
poral concerns of said circuit, and for promoting religion
within the bounds of the same, not being repugnant to
this act, nor to the laws of this State.

CHAP. 180.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the succession shall
be kept up and maintained by election or appointment
of the quarterly meeting conference of the Methodist
Episcopal church, in and for Salisbury circuit, in such
manner and for such periods as the said quarterly meet-
ing conference shall direct, and the said conference shall
have power to fill vacancies, occasioned by death, resig-
nation, removal, disqualification or dismissal of said
conference, by such mode of election or appointment as
has been or shall be adopted by said quarterly meeting
conference.

Vacancies—
how filled.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That all lands and tene-
ments, with the appurtenances, now vested in the said
Stewards for the use of the said circuit, and all other
property of the said circuit, shall be and are hereby ab-
solulely and unconditionally vested in the said body cor-
porate, and their successors forever, to and for the use
of the said circuit, and the said corporation with the
consent and approbation of the said quarterly meeting
conference, shall be and they are hereby declared capa-
ble of bargaining and selling, leasing and conveying,
any part or parts of said property, or any other property
which may be acquired by said corporation, in as full and
as effectual a manner as any person or body corporate
may do.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said corporation
shall be capable of purchasing hereafter, real or perso-
nal property, not exceeding in value the sum of five
thousand dollars.

Limit.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That all acts and deeds
of the stewards of the said church, and their successors,
in virtue of their incorporation under the act of Assem-
bly of eighteen hundred and two, chapter three, which
are not inconsistent with this act, and the law of the
land, be and the same are hereby made good and valid
in law, and the lands and tenements conveyed to the
said stewards, be and the same are hereby vested in the
said corporation, and their successors, forever.

Made valid.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That this Legislature
reserves to itself the right to alter or annul this act of
incorporation at pleasure.
