CHAPTER 287.
An act incorporating the Maryland and Virginia Bridge
Company.
WHEREAS, by an act of the General Assembly of
Virginia, passed on the seventeenth day of January
one thousand eight hundred and forty-eight, certain
corporate privileges were therein granted, authorizing
the erection of a toll bridge over the river Potomac at
Shepherdstown, Jefferson county, Virginia, entitled,
an act incorporating the Maryland and Virginia Bridge
Company; and whereas, by that act it is provided that
said act shall be in force so soon as the legislature of the
State of Maryland shall declare the assent of that State
to the ejection of the said bridge, by an act of the
legislature corresponding in its provisions with the pro-
visions of this act.

Consent of
the State of
Maryland.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the assent of the State of Maryland is
hereby given to the election of said bridge, and the
corporate powers and privileges of the said Maryland
and Virginia Bridge Company are hereby ratified and
confirmed, as fully as if the various sections of the
Virginia act of incorporation were herein repeated, and
that the commissioners named in the first section of the
Virginia act, or any three of them, shall have authority
to open books for receiving subscriptions to the stock
of said company, in such places in the State of Mary-
land, and under the directions of such persons as the
said commissioners or any three of them shall desig-
nate.
