eighteen hundred and forty-six, chapter three hundred
and forty-nine, therefore, in order to remove said doubts,
and also more effectually to secure the benefits proposed
by the said act.

CHAP. 277.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the commissioners of Baltimore county
in making out the levy of State and county taxes for
the year eighteen hundred and forty seven, and for each
succeeding year thereafter, shall levy upon the assessable
property of said county, on or before the first day of
February eighteen hundred and forty-eight, and in each
and every year thereafter, six per centum upon the
amount of said State and county taxes, to defray the expen-
ses of collecting the same.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the Treasurer and
clerk of said county shall be allowed until the first day
of March in each and every year to make out the tax bills,
and shall be required to make his pay merits to the Treasur-
er of Maryland, of all amounts received by him under the
provisions of the said act of December session eighteen
hundred and forty-six, chapter three hundred and forty-
nine, on account of the State direct tax, on the twentieth
day of each month, in each and every year.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the sheriff of Balti-
more county shall be required to complete the collection
of the arrears of taxes placed in his hands under the
provisions of the third section of the act to which this is
a supplement, within six months after such arrears are
so placed in his hands, and he shall make his payments
to the Treasurer of Maryland of all State taxes col-
lected by him monthly, on the twentieth day of each and
every month, and all taxes not paid to the Treasurer of
the county as authorised by said law, shall bear interest
from the last day of December of the year in which they
are made payable to the said treasurer of the county.

SEC. 4 And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from and after the day of the passage thereof, and
all acts and parts of acts inconsistent herewith, are here
by repealed.
