1847.

CHAPTER 243.

An act entitled, a further supplement to an act entitled,
an act relating to Negroes and Slaves.

CHAP. 244.

Passed
March 9, 1849.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act,
all guardians, executors and trustees heretofore or here-
after appointed, or any one of them residing in this
State, appointed by last will and testament or otherwise
in this Slate, or any adjoining State or District, are hereby
authorised and permitted to bring into this State from
any adjoining State or District any slave or slaves, being

slaves for life, confided to them in trust; provided,
that a list of such slaves shall be made out by said
guardian, executors or trustees, or any one of them,
within thirty days after their removal, and recorded in
the clerk's office in the county to which said slaves may
be at any time removed under this act, with an affidavit
thereto attached that the same is a true and faithful list
or lists of said slaves, and that he or she hath not re-
moved the same into this State for the purpose of sale,
and that they are slaves for life.

Proviso.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall not be
so construed as to repeal the colonization tax as now
provided by law.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That all laws inconsistent
with the provisions of this act, be and the same are
hereby repealed.

CHAPTER 244.

Inconsistent
acts repealed.

A further supplement to the act entitled, an act to regulate
sales by Public Auction.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That no duties shall be chargeable upon any goods,
wares, merchandize or other property sold by any auc-
tioneer at private sale on the days of his public auction,
unless the same be sold at the place of his public auction,
or unless the same be part of what was offered for sale
at said public auction, or was advertised to be sold at
said public auction.
