members of the corporation, but shall descend to their
successors for the benevolent relief of the sick and dis-
tressed, the education of the orphans of its members
and for the promotion of those purposes, and the cause
of temperance generally.

CHAP. 72.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this corporation shall
have power to make by-laws, and the same to alter and
amend at their pleasure; provided, that they do not con-
flict with the laws of the State of Maryland, the laws of the
United States, or the laws of the Grand Division.

Proviso.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this act of incorpo-
ration shall enure for thirty years from its passage, and
that the Legislature reserves to itself the right to alter,
amend or annul this act of incorporation at pleasure.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act
be construed so as to authorise the said corporation to
issue any note, token, device, scrip or other evidence of
debt, to be used as currency.

CHAPTER 71.

Issues forbid.

An act to provide for completing the unfinished docket re-
cords of the late Clerk of Carroll County Court.

Passed Feb.
19, 1847.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the clerk of Carroll county court, shall be paid by
the commissioners of the tax of said county, out of the
county rates thereof, to be levied for that purpose, the
usual fees provided by law, when he shall bring up and
complete the unfinished docket record entries of the late
clerk of Carroll county court, from the twenty-fourth
day of December, eighteen hundred and forty-one, to
the appointment and qualification of Jacob Showers, the
present clerk of said county court.

how paid.

An act giving discretionary powers to Worcester County
Court, to make valid the proceedings of the commission-
ers appointed by said court, to divide the real estate of
the late William Tull, deceased.
